Thank you to each of our participants for entering our first machine give-away. We are so happy to announce the winner of the Brother SE-400. It was a difficult decision to award this machine because the entries were terrific. We looked at creativity, ingenuity and the genuine desire conveyed in each entry. Our hope was to make a difference in someone’s creative endeavors. The winner, Hannah Greenwood, spelled out her love of drawing and designing her own outfits. Hannah wants to become a clothes designer when she grows up and we think this Brother machine will get her on her way! Congrats, Hannah!“I would like to win the embroidery machine because I love to draw and design my own outfits in my free time. If I have an embroidery machine, I can take those designs and I can make my very own designer dolls and clothes. My grandma Gail once made me some embroidered paper dolls and I loved them. I hope my grandma will help me because she not only embroiders designer dolls but she also embroiders my jackets. I hope one day I can do the same because my dream is to become a clothes designer. But while I am still little, I can use this time to learn a craft while spending quality time with my grandma. She will teach me how to embroider by machine and sew my own designs. My grandma tells me the stories about how her mom taught her how to embroider by hand and now it is my turn to learn and that is why I would like to win the Brother SE-400. Thank you for giving me the chance to participate in your contest. Sincerely, Hannah Greenwood”
Two more entries really moved us. Joan Greenhalgh’s tag – a gift for her dog, Chipper – was perfectly executed. We loved how she built a scene around the tree. Great job, Joan, you’re the proud winner of a $150.00 gift coupon for a Designs Machine Embroidery shopping spree.
“My first thought upon seeing the tree design was creating a gift tag for a special, furry member of our family. We inherited Chipper when his owner passed away. We hope we have given him as much love as his previous owner because he has certainly filled our lives with love and happiness. I would certainly love to win a Brother SE-400 in order to give it to my daughter. She recently spent a day off from work with me creating on my Brother embroidery/sewing machine. She left with a list a mile long of projects she wanted to create for Christmas gifts! Brother has just acquired another fan. Thank you. Joan Greenhalgh”
Diane Kratochvil wrote so beautifully of her husband Jerry’s recent health struggles comparing his strength and reliability to that of a tree. Very moving, Diane, he’s a lucky man to have you at his side. You too are the winner of a $150.00 gift coupon for a Designs Machine Embroidery shopping spree.“I am submitting this photo of my interpretation of your gift tag. I made my tag to attach to a gift for my husband, Jerry. We are retired, and my husband has been very sick for the last six years. Doctors have not been able to pinpoint the cause of his extreme difficulty with breathing and his recurrent severe infections. He gets frustrated and discouraged with his inability to do any of the things that made him happy for so many years. Your tree reminded me of Jerry’s strength and reliability over the many years of our marriage. More importantly I thought that it represents the uncertainties of life, as it never stops growing and changing throughout its life span. But the feeling of peace and comfort that comes from resting quietly under a tree such as this was the most powerful symbol of all and is the gift I most want to give to my husband. Because of his illness, my husband and I have spent a great deal of time at home during the last several years. When I discovered machine embroidery, I found a way to be creative, to keep me busy and contribute to my family and community, as well as to give me a diversion from the worry of doctors’ appointments, medications, and treatments. Time spent embroidering helps me to center myself and find an oasis of calm in a very hectic life. I have spent many happy hours embellishing clothing for my grandchildren, adding monograms for my children’s work shirts, and creating beautiful freestanding lace items to enhance our holidays. I have also been able to embroider squares which are incorporated into quilts that are then given to children who are hospitalized or in the care of a hospice organization. Winning the Brother machine would make it possible for me to continue these activities and add to them. I added freestanding lace leaves to my gift tag to embellish it further and emphasize the beauty of fall – my favorite season of the year. The tag is embroidered on cotton fabric printed with tiny stems and leaves and uses the colors of fall. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you so much. Diane Kratochvil”
