E-readers, tablets and iPads have changed the way we digest information. They are quite portable and can get caught in the mix when travelling or attending meetings so make yours stand out. Nancy Zieman thought of everything when she designed the E-Tablet & Paper Tablet Keeper template by Clover. Really – everything. Why? Nancy will tell you (okay, I didn’t ask her but I’m pretty sure she would agree) the devil is in the details. And ‘homemade’ is definitely in the details. What makes one project look like it was thrown together and another to have been created over days and weeks? The details – the binding, the trim accents, the feel of the fabric and the fit. If you nail the details, then you’ll be pleased with the outcome.
Nancy has addressed all the details with helpful products that make the finished project look very professional.
First, there’s the E-Tablet & Paper Tablet Keeper template. A 3-in-1 pattern (that will probably outlast your tablet) for small, medium and large readers includes markings for a tab closure, magnet, center accent, pockets and the like. No guesswork here, just mark your fabric and cut.
Second, Clover’s Pre-cut Tablet Keeper Shapers. Oh my, slip this sturdy material into the keeper and voila! Your keeper is stiff as a board.
Third, Create-a-Strap fusible interfacing with precut folds. If you struggle with cutting and pressing strips into perfect rectangles, then this product is for you. Every time I use it, I’m so darn impressed with my results, I can’t help but grin. Nancy’s products make me look brilliant!
With these tools in hand, I couldn’t wait to get started. Since I’m a machine embroiderer, I wanted to embellish the outside cover. I played around with fonts in digitizing software and created this fun design. Then, I selected a faux suede fabric and hooped it in Magna-Hoop Jumbo to avoid hoop burn.
After the embroidery was complete, I simply followed Nancy’s instructions and completed the Keeper in about an hour.
I used elastic hair bands at the corners to hold my Kindle in place – per Nancy’s suggestion. I just tacked them on the corners (I followed the markings on the Tablet Keeper Template for placement).
The ends get hidden under the inner spine and later, the binding.
Wow – it was way easier than I thought it would be!

Just had a Kindle passed down to me from Husband who got iPad, so will use to make cover for it.
I have a Kindle and my daughter has a Nook Color. AI also use both a regular letter-sized pad and a 5×7 smaller version for various tasks and meetings. Guess I’d better get busy! I love both versions of your design.
I think the Tablet Keeper is great! I alway try to find notebooks that have unique designs or that are different from the normal boring plain covers. I want to make some for my notebooks so I can easily tell which one is which. Thank you!!!

I made a Kindle Keeper as a Christmas gift for my mom, and now my dad wants a Tablet Cover for his iPad! I’ve had so much fun picking fabrics and designs to put on both of their projects! It makes me feel so happy to know that I’m giving them something that they will enjoy using!

Traditional Paper Notebook – though if won a Kindle reader or iPad would give them a cover too! As a newbie with machine embroidery, I have trouble in alignment of designs. The PAL sounds very interesting. My late father used laser’s for aligning his woodturning pieces so think this is Kool idea. Thanks for the informative post!

What a great set of products, I would use the template to make a cover for my Police office husband. I would use my embroidery machine to do some sort of great police related embroidery. Maybe a police car with red lights, he does love his job!

I’ve got the template and the inserts. I’m making one for my Kindle Fire this weekend, and then a tablet keeper for work. I’ve been following the blog hop and am going to incorporate a couple of ideas in my Keeper. The Pen loop is a necessity for the tablet keeper.

I am usually skeptical of things that “are simpler than you think” –it’s not always simple. I have an e-reader, and many high school students will be using them more and more. In this world we don’t like to blend in–but show our independence. I like too, the old fashioned paper tablets. This is an ideal tool to get all you need and be creative. I love the idea of being able to use the cover for a paper tablet. As a reading specialist, I have to go to a lot of meetings about students. I always use a note pad to write down my notes. This cover will look great at the meetings. Maybe someday I will be able to upgrade to an ipad.
